Linda Brown, a Southern California native, grew up with equal passions for nature and art. Becoming a professional landscape artist was inevitable.

Essentially self taught in the basics of oil painting, she has been painting most of her life. Studying the great landscape art of the past and present, she finds herself especially drawn to the beautiful light and color found most often in the plein air works of early California artists such as: Edgar Payne, Maurice Braun, Guy Rose, and Elmer Wachtel. Seeking further growth, she has studied with several contemporary masters such as Ralph Oberg, Matt Smith, and Skip Whitcomb.

In a style described as “painterly realism”, she seeks to capture the feeling of a place beyond the obvious details. Her paintings emphasize the effects of light and atmosphere, and celebrate all the varied colors and textures found in nature. Her favorite subjects include the yet unspoiled landscapes of the Western U.S., especially the mountains and deserts of California. With every brushstroke she hopes share her love of the land with others.

Linda’s paintings hang in private collections throughout the western U.S., as well as Canada and Great Britain. Her works have been accepted into many juried exhibitions, such as Arts for the Parks in Jackson WY, Salon International in San Antonio TX, Contemporary Masters Artistic Eden in Pasadena CA, and San Dimas National Western Art Exhibition in San Dimas CA. Linda is a member of the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America. She makes her home in the foothill community of Claremont, CA.
